WINTER ACTIVITIES IN INARI

REINDEER FARM VISIT IN INARI
In the reindeer farm you will meet the host dressed in colourful Sámi clothing in a home farm. The programme in the farm includes reindeer feeding and stories about reindeer herders’ history and modern times. You will also learn the traditional reindeer herder’s skill, Lappish lasso throwing. You will have a cosy coffee break with stories about Sámi culture and you will hear special Lapp songs, “joik”. Duration 2 hours.
OPTIONAL: Reindeer drive.

REINDEER SAFARI
Transfer to a Sámi home farm. The reindeer safari will give you real taste of old days when reindeer herders used to travel in sledges pulled by a reindeer. In one hour reindeer safari you will feel the mystical Arctic silence. Duration 1,5-2 hours.

OVERNIGHT REINDEER SAFARI
This safari will give you a real wilderness experience like in old times! Most of the time will be spent outdoors like a real reindeer herder use to do. Imagine the silence of the arctic nature and cosy fire… And if lucky even the Northern Lights! You will never forget it! Once in a lifetime experience! Total duration 20-24 hours.

SIIDA - SAMI MUSEUM & NORTHERN LAPLAND NATURE CENTRE
The exhibitions show now nature and people have adapted to the extreme conditions of the Northern environment. Wonderful photographs, videos, dioramas, soundscapes and original articrafts guide you between the seasons and back through the times past. Possibility for coffee and meals after the museum tour. DVD-show on Northern Lights or Lake Inarijärvi.

SAMI CULTURE or AURORA BOREALIS & SNOWMOBILING
The trip will take you to the famous island “Ukko” (“Äijih”), an ancient sacrificial site of the Inari Sámis. Day time you will also visit the wilderness church of Pielpajärvi build 1760. Hot drink included. Evening safari is hunting for the Northern Lights! Duration 2 hours.

WINTER FISHING AND BLINI SAFARI
You will snowmobile to our Lake Inari cabin and learn secrets of winter fishing. On the way you will also see the holy Sámi island “Ukko”. First you will check the traditional winter nets and later while you are ice fishing and “teasing” fish, the guide prepares delicious lunch: blini with roe of Lake Inari white fish in sour cream as well as smoked fish. Duration 3,5-4 hours.

HUSKY FARM VISIT & ONE HOUR HUSKY SAFARI
Transfer to the husky farm which is a real home farm where you will hear about the life of these arctic animals and learn about driving a husky team. Then it is time to enjoy the silence of the nature with your husky team. Total duration ca. 2 hrs.

VISIT TO WILD ANIMAL PARK AND HUSKY SAFARI
Visit a wild animal park & husky farm and join to ca. 10 km husky safari. The safari will be driven 2 persons per husky team. The other person will be driving and the other will sit in the sledge. The driver can be changed in half way. Coffee by open fire. Duration ca. 3 hrs.

HUSKY SAFARI TO PIELPAJÄRVI WILDERNESS CHURCH
The safari will take you via Lake Inari and Lappish forest sceneries to the famous Pielpajärvi wilderness church build 1760. The safari will be driven 2 persons per husky team and the driver can be changed. Coffee by open fire in a Lappish hut. Duration 2,5-3 hrs.
NOTE, this safari is also available other days min. 4 persons.

OVERNIGHT HUSKY SAFARI
This overnight husky safari will take you to the real Lappish wilderness and show how arctic dogs find they way in the deep snow. You will prepare a “lavvu” camp for overnight and sleep on the traditional reindeer skins with thermal sleeping bags. You will also make your dinner by the open fire and hopefully the Northern Lights are dancing on the sky in magical silence. After breakfast it is time to return to the civilization and Inari village. Duration ca. 26-28 hours.

NATURE & CULTURE BY SNOWSHOEING
The snowshoes will be adjusted to the shoes and the guide will give you some hints for snowshoeing. You will walk in the beautiful lake and forest landscape and the guide will explain you about the Sámi culture and Lappish nature. You will see on the way e.g. old fisherman’s camp and other lodgings. Hot drink. Duration 2,5-3 hrs.

HUNTING NORTHERN LIGHTS BY SNOWSHOEING
Guided snowshoeing in places near village where Northern Lights can be seen if the weather permits (exists average 200 nights/year). You will experience the arctic nature, snow and frost while the guide tells you about the nature and Northern Lights. Duration 2 hours.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
The guide will show you different techniques of cross country skiing and then you can start enjoying skiing yourself. After skiing together with the guide you can keep the skiing equipment for the rest of the day and ski on your own. Duration 1,5 hours.

VISIT TO LEMMENJOKI & FELT MAKING COURSE
You are welcome to visit the felt maker’s studio in an old Sámi setting in Lemmenjoki. You will hear about felt making of lamb wool for various purposes. You will also see how the felt maker creates pictures of surrounding nature from wool fibres. And you will have opportunity to try felt making yourself! Coffee. Duration 3,5-4 hours.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES IN INARI 2010

REINDEER FARM VISIT MONDAY-FRIDAY AT 15.00 in June - Mid August, NOTE, tickets latest by 14:30

You will also learn the traditional reindeer herder’s skill, Lappish lasso throwing. Cosy coffee break with stories about the history of Sámis, their culture and beliefs. Duration 1,5 hours + transfer 15-20 min. one way.

REINDEER FARM VISIT BY REQUEST
The reindeer farm visit programme as above but tome by request. Duration ca. 2 hrs including transfers.

WILDERNESS CHURCH PIELPAJÄRVI BY TAXI BOAT
Boat transfer ca. 45 min. in Lake Inari to/from Pielpavuono for walk to/from Pielpajärvi wilderness church (walk 2,5 km, ca. 1 h/one way), visit the church and return back to Inari village by foot (about 7 km, 2 -3 h). It is possible to do this trip vice versa. Then pick up from Pielpavuono as agreed.

FISHING IN LAKE INARI
This fishing boat trip is an excellent way to combine fishing and visiting Lake Inari. With its thousands of sounds, vast open spaces and almost 100-metre depths, Lake Inari offers unforgettable fishing experiences in the middle of a rugged wilderness. Lake Inari has salmon-type fish: whitefish, brown trout, arctic char, grayling, perch, pike etc. Coffee included. Duration 2,5-3 hours.

“AIR TAXI” – INARI SIGHTSEEING BY AIR
Sightseeing tour by small airplane over Inari village, Juutua River mouth, holy Sámi island “Ukko” and Pielpajärvi wilderness church. Flying 10-15 min. and total duration of the programme 25-30 min with take off and landing.

TASTE OF SÁMILAND AND ARCTIC OCEAN, NORWAY
This day tour will show you a Skolt Sámi village Sevettijärvi where you will see a Skolt Sámi open air museum area and tradition house. You will also see shortly Kirkenes, a mining and a harbour town in Norway by the Arctic Ocean. On the way you will see beautiful Lappish forest and lake as well as Arctic Ocean fjord sceneries. Photo stops for reindeer etc. Coffee break, drinks not included. Duration 8-10 hours.

TRIP TO KINGDOM OF FOREST GOD “TAPIO” BERRY AND MUSHROOM PICKING TOUR
We will use transfer or go by bike (rental 5 €) to the forest near Inari village. During the trip the guide will show eatable berries and mushrooms and will tell us how to use them. You can pick berries and mushrooms if you want. Duration 2-2,5 hours. Trip available mid July –September.

BIRD WATCHING OR NATURE GUIDANCE
Always wanted to learn about birds? Or interested in guided hike to the wilderness church Pielpajärvi or guided biking in the nature? Ask for a private guidance in English or German.

CRUISE IN LAKE INARI
Daily in June-September at 14.00 (20.6.-10.8. also at 18:00) to 2 hrs cruise in Lake Inari which is a beautiful wilderness lake with 3.318 islands and you will visit one, the famous island “Ukko” (Äijih), an ancient sacrificial site of the Inari Sámis.

LEMMENJOKI NATIONAL PARK & RAVADAS FALLS
Transfer to Lemmenjoki and from there a river boat will take you 17 km along the beautiful River Lemmenjoki to the Ravadas falls. There you’ll enjoy the beauty of the waterfalls and the surrounding nature of the Lemmenjoki National Park. You can spend the day in the national park or in the village (café-restaurant in the village). Optional visit to the felt maker’s studio. Duration 5 or 12 hours. Available ca. 7.6.-19.9.
